1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy applies to Cheshire International Removals Limited (trading as Cheshire Removals and Storage), a company registered in England and Wales under company number 02888734, with our registered office at Westminster House, 10 Westminster Road, Macclesfield SK10 1BX. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Cheshire International Removals Limited is the “data controller” of the personal information you provide through this website or in the course of a move. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as a data controller, registration reference ZB004629.

2. What information we collect

We collect personal information directly from you when you interact with us. Depending on how you contact us, this may include:
  • Contact details: your name, address, email address and phone number.
  • Move details: your current and new address, the size and type of property, an inventory of items to be moved, the date you’d like to move, and any access notes.
  • Survey photographs: if you book a pre-move survey, our surveyor may take photographs of the items to be moved and access routes (corridors, stairs, parking) to help us quote accurately and plan the move.
  • Payment information: if you proceed to book, we collect billing details to process payment. Card payments are handled by our payment processor and we do not store full card numbers on our systems.
  • Correspondence: records of emails, calls, web-form submissions, and messages you send us.
  • Website data: information about your visit to the site, including IP address, device and browser type, pages visited, and how you arrived at the site. See our Cookie Policy for detail.
We may also receive information about you from third parties – for example, from a corporate client booking a move on your behalf, an estate agent, a relocation company, or an insurance referrer.

3. How we use your information, and our lawful basis

We will only send you marketing emails if you’ve opted in. Where you are an existing customer, we may also email you about similar removal or storage services under the soft opt-in exemption (PECR Regulation 22(3)). 4. Who we share your information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with parties who help us run our business, on our instructions, and under contract. These typically include:
  • Our staff and crews (surveyors, coordinators, drivers and porters) – to deliver the service you’ve booked.
  • Our IT and software providers – including our customer relationship management (CRM) platform, our email service provider, and our website hosting provider.
  • Our payment processor – to handle card or bank payments where applicable.
  • Our accountants and auditors – to maintain our financial records and meet our tax and audit obligations.
  • Our insurers and legal advisers – where needed to handle a claim or legal matter.
  • The British Association of Removers (BAR) – where required as part of our membership obligations (e.g. complaint resolution under BAR’s Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme).
  • International freight partners and customs agents – for international moves only, where your information is required to complete the shipment and customs clearance.
  • Government, regulatory or law-enforcement bodies – where we are legally required to do so.
We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

5. International transfers

For international moves, your information may be transferred outside the UK to the destination country to enable customs clearance and delivery. Where we transfer personal data outside the UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place – including UK-approved standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions – in line with UK GDPR. For UK moves, your information generally stays in the UK or the European Economic Area.

6. How long we keep your information

We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it for, or as long as we are required to keep it by law.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights over your personal information:
  • Right of access – to request a copy of the information we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification – to ask us to correct information that’s inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Right to erasure – to ask us to delete your information, in certain circumstances.
  • Right to restrict processing – to ask us to limit how we use your information.
  • Right to data portability – to ask for a copy of certain information in a portable format.
  • Right to object – to object to certain types of processing, including direct marketing.
  • Right to withdraw consent – where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
  • Rights related to automated decision-making – we do not currently use automated decision-making or profiling that has legal effects.
